About the Oast House

Little Bucksteep Oast House is a gem of a self catering holiday cottage in Dallington, East Sussex, rated 4* by Visit England.  It is a beautiful old English Country Cottage, dating from the late 17th century, set in the midst of the beautiful private gardens of a gorgeous Queen Anne Manor House.  Guests have very generous use of the swimming pool apart from Sunday afternoons and Bank holiday afternoons. Oast houses are typical of East Sussex and Kent, and were used to dry hops for beer making.

The Oast has many period features including beams, wooden paneling, leaded windows, old stone walls and a wood burning stove, and is furnished with lovely old furniture.  The master bedroom has a beautiful 4 poster bed, and with the windows open you can forget the city and just listen to the birdsong  and the peace and quiet.  Truly a very special self catering holiday home.

This area of Sussex has many attractions including historic towns like Battle, Rye, Bodiam Castle, a host of lovely unspoilt little villages and many National Trust properties with beautiful gardens and houses.  Glyndebourne is 30 minutes away, and the sea side and the South Downs about the same.  Although the Oast is in the most beautiful unspoilt & undulating countryside, it is only just over an hour into London on the train, and an hours drive from Gatwick airport. Dallington is midway between Battle and Heathfield, and set in truly rural countryside.

It also has a French door leading out onto one of the Oast’s private gardens, where you can sit outside with your breakfast coffee, or sit on the grass and read a book before playing a set of tennis or taking a leisurely swim.  This room also has Sky TV and DVD, in addition to the kitchen, so adults can sit here and watch TV separately from the children next door, if they so choose.

The kitchen dining room in this Susssex holiday cottage is large, light and spacious and also boasts a seating area with a sofa and 2 armchairs with TV and DVD.  This large room has stunning exposed oak beamed ceilings, with well placed spot lights and large glass doors leading onto the terrace and 2nd private garden, which is equipped for outside entertaining with a table and chairs, large sun umbrella as well as a barbeque.  The dining room has a large antique pine table which seats 8, a lovely old oak dresser and plenty of dining chairs, together with a traditional oak Windsor chair.

The kitchen is very well equipped with china, cutlery and all things for cooking at home.

There is a small utility area next to the kitchen with a washing machine, drying rails and a storage cupboard where the central heating boiler is stored.

Opposite this is a shower room with WC which has recently been refurbished.

Adjacent to this is the entrance hall with plenty of storage for coats and boots

On the ground floor of the roundel is a large double bedroom with a double bed and brass headboard, and lovely old furniture, including a large chest of drawers, drop leaf table and an elegant desk with bookcase on top.  Windows look out over the garden. There is hanging space next to the bedroom in the understairs cupboard.

Taking the oak panelled exposed stone staircase upstairs, you come to the master bedroom in the top of the roundel with the vast 4 poster bed, covered with a gorgeous throw and lovely linen, for pure romance and fairy tale living this is a dream come true.

There is one further bedroom upstairs which is a large and beautiful room with a high beamed ceiling and little chandelier.

There are 2 elegant single beds with white iron headboards and one child’s bed (just a few inches smaller than a single). The linen on the childs bed is white with beautiful embroidered fairies for the little princess in your life, or blue and boyish for the prince. The 2 single beds are covered in luxury white linen with lovely yellow throws. There is a chest of draws and lots of hanging room.

The family bathroom upstairs has a bath with a handheld shower attachment. A charming window looks over the oast garden towards the old orchard.

The holiday cottage is supplied with 2 TVs, Sky, 2 DVDs, Wifi & internet, a phone in case of emergencies, radio, some DVDs and games, and an iphone docking station

The pool is accessed from one of the Oast private gardens via a gate, which can be locked for greater security for small children.  In the garden is a lovely teak table and chairs, together with a fabulous Outback gas BBQ.  For anyone looking for further sport and fitness activity, the owner runs Lotte Berk ballet barre exercise classes (not unlike Pilates, but with ballet leg exercises too) at the main house.

Guests in this Sussex holiday cottage have 2 garages and plenty of parking for their own use, and an attractive stroll through the gardens looking over the field where the sun sets, leads to the picturesque luxury self catering holiday cottage set in its own private grounds.
